Bell Mountain, 1,288m is in Phu Kradung National Park - reputed to be one of Thailand's most romantic spots. It is a 3-hour trek to the summit and we will see many lovely waterfalls and cliffs. As we enjoy the gorgeous scenery, we also hope to savour sunrise and sunset from the mountain. When you realise that Kradung means bell, it will be no surprise that the mountain is indeed bell-shaped. The challenge of this mountain is a steep but not so difficult 5km trail up from the foothill to the summit. It will take you 4 to 5 hours, ascending about 1000m, passing through a long and interesting trail that with many food & drink stalls. The summit is such another interesting place that comes with pre-built tents and many restaurants.

The park is largely covered with seasonal tropical rain forest and evergreen forests. The 60 square km (mountain top) plateau is a savanna of pines, oak, beech, etc. There are elephant, barking deer and many bird species in the park. Good news for those of you who don't enjoy being waterlogged, there is normally almost no rain during December to February.

Note: if time permit we will stop by Lopburi Province to see the Sunflowers field.

Cost includes transport, full meals, hotel in BKK and Chiangkhan.

The Great Migration – Out of Africa

Remarks: Early departure, check in Wednesday night, 2 Aug by 2245 hours.

One of the “Seven New Wonders of the World”, also known as The World Cup of Wildlife. It’s possible to experience this real-life phenomenon by being there, no longer through the goggle box in our home on animal documentary….and yes, we are talking about Africa. The Wildebeest Migration!

Masai Mara is most famous for the spectacular annual migration of over a million wildebeest, zebra, gazelle etc from the Serengeti in northern Tanzania crossing the Mara River into Kenya in search of fresh feeding grounds, which takes place in July/August. During this crossing, hundreds of animals are swept away by the first moving Mara River and others are killed by the ferocious African Crocodiles. This crossing gives true meaning to the phrase “Survival of the fittest”. Been warranted by travelers that the wildebeest river crossing viewings are not guaranteed, hence I asked the guide: “how good are the chances of catching the migration and river crossing?” The answer: “70 - 80% BECAUSE THIS IS NATURE”!

How about taking to the skies for the ultimate Masai Mara wildlife adventure, soaring in a hot air balloon over herds of game to the inner reaches of the Mara for the flight of a lifetime! You will be over the most inaccessible and undisturbed parts of the Mara, with only the intermittent whisper of the balloon’s gas burners punctuating the silence of your majestic flight with a fantastic 360-degree bird’s-eye view as one of the most dramatic scenes in nature unfolds beneath you!

Finally, for something less intense, visit to Lake Bogoria for a Central Kenya Safari to view the hot springs and geysers and the thousands of Flamingo. What a treat for nature lover, animal lover, bird watcher and photographer hoping to catch the best shot of their life!

NOTE:
- Pregnant, more senior people or those with back problems are not recommended to go on such trips as journey out there is very bumpy road.

Remarks: Kili is really not tough for one with average fitness But AMS for this climb is really something to be reckon with. However, those who have no camping experience or poor camping adaptability will find this trip tough.

Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m above sea level) is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world (free-standing means it is not part of a mountain range). It is also one of the Seven Summits (tallest mountain on each of the seven continents).

Crowned with ice at the summit, the glaciers have been existing here for more than 11,000 years despite its close proximity to the equator. Scientists estimate that global warming has taken a toll on this crown with ice vaporizing at an alarming rate; the ice cap might be completely gone by 2050. The mountain has been the subject of many scientific studies because of its shrinking glaciers. So wait no more, do this trek sooner, you don’t want to miss the glaciers!

Machame, hails to be a very scenic route. We’ll be approaching from the southwest and descends using Mweka, rewarding climbers with views of the expansive Shira Plateau, an optional scramble up Lava Tower, a climb up the Great Barranco Wall, and a traverse underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern Ice field. Remarks:Cost includes transport, trekking permit, compulsory local trekking guide and early dinner in Msia. Late night departure on 21Jul Sat night 11:30pm..

This is a moderately challenging trek : suitable for those who have done some light trekking trails in Malaysia, and looking for new trail challenges.

Gunung Angsi is located in Ulu Bendol recreational forest on the outskirts of Seremban, the capital of Negri Sembilan. At a height of about 825m, the climb is quite straightforward and the trail well defined and clear. After an initially deceptive flat beginning, the ascent becomes steeper with a ridgeline leading up all the way to the summit. Closer to the summit, there are gullies which provide some challenges to the trekkers. It takes about average 3 hours of trekking uphill before reaching the summit, and 2 hours to return to the the same trail head.

We will depart late Friday night, reach base early morning, and climb the Saturday morning after breakfast.

A local dinner in Malaysia is included before returning to Singapore.

Remarks:

Our plan is to fly from Singapore to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) for 1-2 days before going to Vientiane, From there, our private van/bus will take up all the way up North covering most of key cities listed below:

For many, the lofty mountains and sheer riverine valleys of northern Laos sum up the dreamy and exotic nature of the entire country. Situated on a promontory of the Mekong River, Luang Prabang is by far the crown jewel of northern Laos. The former royal capital and UNESCO World Heritage Centre remains one of the most charming and romantic cities in all of Asia. We may include the well-trodden “Banana Pancake Trail”, which includes infamous Vang Vieng, and stay 1-2 day in the capital city Vientiane.

We may choose to cross the border at Chiang Khong, Thailand/Huay Xai, Laos via the Friendship Bridge. Huay Xai is home to the memorable Gibbon Experience, a once-in-a-lifetime zip-lining trip that will have you soaring above jungle canopy and sleeping in tree houses and then hop onto the slow boat for a two-day journey down the Mekong (with a pitstop in Pak Beng) to Luang Prabang.

The fun outdoor activities in the Nam Ha National Protected Area and hill tribe trekking could easily keep you entertained. Our bus will take us to regional hub Udomxai to Phongsali and the unknown the pastoral paradise Muang La Nong Kiaow and Muang Ngoi boast a gorgeous backdrop of imposing limestone mountains and picturesque views of the Nam Ou River.

Visit the caves in Vieng Xai, the headquarters of the Pathet Lao and where 20,000 people survived in a hidden cave city. Sam Neua is famed for its exquisite weaving and textiles. Phonsavan is home to the mysterious megalithic Plain of Jars before heading home via Thailand or Vietnam.

The estimate cost is S$1200 per person. This trip will be limited to 18 persons of any age group. If you keen, please email before 10 June.

Remarks:Friday late night 11:45pm departure, returning on Sunday afternoon.

Ascending Mount Ophir is a not only a challenging experience to establish your physical and mental fitness and endurance, it will always be a retrospective journey for SAC members and experienced trekkers.

There is only one Lagenda Trail route to do so nowadays, as the cross-over Asahan trail is barred off by the military terraine at the top, and the old trail from the resort waterfall is no longer accessible.

We will be begin our ascend from Taman Hutan Lagenda at 730am. The journey from trailhead to summit is estimated 4-5hrs. We will reach KFC (Killer Fitness Centre) after about 2 hours of climbing up the gradual steps. Then we will take short break and refresh ourselves before we push to the summit via KFC. There are some ropework climbing at this stretch to the summit. We will eat lunch (self-packed) while enjoying the view from the summit. After that we will begin our descend from another trail, by-passing the rockface area, and go down from the same Lagenda Trail. Hence the entire journey is estimated 8-10 hours for a person with average fitness to complete.

We target to return to base by 6pm to clean up and have our restaurant dinner in a "kampung" neighbourhood nearby. We will spend our night in the dorms at the foot of the Mountain.

On Sunday morning, after breakfast (at own expense) in the kampung, we will head back to Singapore.

Kindly take note: this trek is most suitable for seasoned trekkers, and those doing tough training for overseas trips. We strongly advise and caution that this trek is not suitable for young kids, first-time trekkers nor the unfit.

Cost includes 2-way transport, guide fees, trekking permits, trekking fees, rubbish deposits, sumptuous dinner at a neighbourhood restaurant . Night stay in dorms with "tilam" and fan, no aircon. Cost excludes beer and alcoholic drinks.

Ge Nie 格聂 (6,204m) in Shaluli Mountain Range (沙鲁里山脉) of western Sichuan (in China) resembles a mountain goddess riding a white horse. It is deep in the holy land of Tibetan Khampa (西藏康巴) area, where a lot of Tibetan pilgrims come to worship.

Our journey starts from Chengdu (成都), rest and acclimatize in Kangding (康定), kickstart with a light walk and village visit in Tagong grassland (塔公草原) to further adapt to high altitude, where we have chance to interact with Tibetan locals, learn Tibetan culture, and drink butter tea.

Next day we hike into the rhododhendron forest, have picnic lunch and explore the beautiful valley of Xiaozha waterfall (肖扎飞瀑). If time permits we can enjoy hot spring in Xiaozha.

New Zealand, a remote country situated in the far South Pacific Ocean and southeast to Australia. It is well known for its spectacular landscape, natural scenery and unique Maori Culture. We are visiting New Zealand during its spring season.

Take a look at some of the highlights in this trip:
Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Auckland, Wanaka, Rotorua, Taupo, New Plymouth, Hokitika and Te Anau are just some of the big cities and small towns which we will be visiting or stopping by. Places that we must visit include Waitomo Cave, Te Puia, Redwoods Forest, Wai-O-Tapu, Waimangu Volcano village, Tongariro, Mt. Taranaki, Arthurs Pass, Franz Josef Glacier, Fox Glacier, Roys Peak, Mt. Cook Village, Lake Tekapo and etc. Of course, you will have a chance to include a visit to some of the “Load of the Rings” movie filming sites into your itinerary.

This trip is more than just sightseeing; it is also an adventure trekking trip as well. We have a leisure cruising to Milford Sound; we also have a full day trekking activity in both north and south islands as well. The toughest Tongariro Alpine Crossing will require you to ascend more than 800m to the highest point at around 1900m; and cover a total distance of more than 20km in one day. Participant need to be reasonably above average fitness and with trekking experience.

This is a budget DIY Backpacking Road Trip. We will have one or two rental cars for self-driving. We need at least two experience and safe drivers to a car; we need you to read map and to navigate. Dormitory, guesthouse and hostel are our top choice for accommodation. In some days, lunch will be just simple and on-the-go. You need to be a SAC member to participate in this trip.

September is New Zealand beginning of spring. Be prepared not only to enjoy lots of blooming follows, but also to expect the sudden change of weather from good to bad (raining and temperature drop to freezing cold) especially during our trekking day.

Once upon a time – Hiking was invented in the Germany Black Forest?

The Black Forest has been the setting ground for many of the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales, and also as the land of cuckoo clocks, hefty-timbered farmhouses, and castles in the deep woods.

The Westweg in the Black Forest is the oldest and most famous long distance hiking trail of Germany, founded in 1900. It starts from the German city of Pforzheim to Basel in Switzerland, and the path covers 270 kilometers of beautiful scenery, passes through small villages, primeval forest, mountains, green meadows, lakes, and you also get to see the Alps in sight.

We will also get to visit the world’s famous cuckoo clock museum, and try the specialties eg the delicious black forest cakes. Lunch is mostly on-the-go. Accommodations are guesthouses, youth-hostels, dormitories, huts in villages and small towns along or nearby the pathway.

Thus, participants are required to have experiences in trekking, be able to read trail maps, trail signboards, basic bearings know-how, well-equipped while at the same time, would need to carry own full backpacks on some days of the trip. Grading [?]: > Trail 1 & > Trail 2 Group Size:40
Leader:Kwok Mei Foong / Tan Yee Lee / Kwah Peng Siong / Audrey Fong Email:natureilove@yahoo.com
Remarks:Friday late night 11:45pm departure, returning on Sun afternoon. Cost includes 2-way transport, guide fees, trekking permits, trekking fees, rubbish deposits, sumptuous dinner at a neighbourhood. Night stay in dorms with "tilam" and fan, no aircon. Cost excludes beer and alcoholic drinks)

Ascending Mount Ophir is not only a challenging experience to establish your physical and mental fitness and endurance, it will always be a retrospective journey for SAC members and experienced trekkers.

There is only one Lagenda Trail route to do so nowadays, as the cross-over Asahan trail is barred off by the military terraine at the top, and the old trail from the resort waterfall is no longer accessible.

We will be begin our ascend from Taman Hutan Lagenda at 7am. We will have lunch (self-packed) while enjoying the view from the summit. After that we will begin our descend from another trail, by-passing the rockface area, and go down from the same Lagenda Trail. Hence the entire journey is estimated 8-10 hours for a person with average fitness to complete.

We target to return to base by 6pm to clean up and begin our celebrations over a "kampung" style BBQ dinner , and enjoy the night chilling out and relaxing at the foot of the Ophir neighborhood, where we will spend our night there.

On Sunday morning, after breakfast (at own expense) in the kampung, we will head back to Singapore.

Kindly take note:

Trail 1) this trek is most suitable for seasoned trekkers, and those doing tough training for overseas trips. We strongly advise and caution that this trek is not suitable for young kids, first-time trekkers nor the unfit.

Trail 2) There is another option offered which side-tracked to the natural fish pond, this will take trekkers about 4 to 5 hours up and down the trail. This option is suitable for those who have done some light treks (2-5hr) in Malaysia but have not yet the confidence or ready to cover the 8-10hrs challenge, but interested to share along part of the journey with the seasoned trekkers.

How to register: Please download the participation form from here., fill it up, and then email to Peng Siong at natureilove@yahoo.com for form-submission and fee-payment instructions. Please also indicate you are going for Trail 1(8-10hr) or Trail 2(4-5hr).
